Just returned from a trip to a beautiful part of Washington State, Okanogan County. Home base was a vacation home in the Tunk Valley, with beautiful rolling hills, mountains in the distance, pine trees spotting the landscape, and a subtle dusting of wildflowers.
The nearby town of Riverside is tiny but charming:
A few miles past Riverside are the neighboring towns of Omak and Okanogan. Omak is best known for the stampede and suicide race, but I was welcomed ("howdy") to a nice downtown park with carvings by local native artists.
The highlight of the town of Okanogan is a wonderful historical museum, complete with a reproduction western town populated by mannequins - and a few humorous touches:
The outdoor exhibit includes a reproduction of the photo studio of Frank Matsura, whose photographs captured the area in the early 1900's.
